Responsibilities / Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Generally

  • Assist with material specification at design stage
  • Generate tender documentation, seek competitive quotations, negotiate the best possible price and place orders for all materials purchased directly by the company
  • Negotiate Group term deals, fixed price agreements and retrospective rebates.
  • Establish and maintain a library of products and prices.
  • Assist the Commercial Manager / QS in cost exercises, tender analysis and pricing purchaser’s extras
  • Control the Company’s use of plant and hired equipment.
  • Highlight any discrepancies on drawings.

 

Design & Build Procurement Route

  • Issue detailed quotations for inclusion into tender documentation, or throughout the D&B process for provision to the D&B Contractor as nominated suppliers
  • Develop and maintain a Project Material Procurement Register

Construction Management Procurement Route

  • Provide detailed budged information to deadlines agreed with the Commercial Manager / QS.
  • Prepare materials schedules for standard / project dwelling types
  • From drawings and specification to take off quantities and produce materials schedules for use in ordering and for use of Site Manager in calling off.
  • Obtain designs from specialist suppliers and ensure their approval by the Design Team.
  • Develop and maintain a Project Material Procurement Register
  • Establish and maintain a system of material control; Monitoring what has been used compared with what is on the schedule.

Skills / Experience / Qualifications Required:

  • Good knowledge of various forms of residential construction processes along with a wide variety of material options for each process stage
  • Established supplier and builders merchant contacts within the region/country
  • Able to work under own initiative, having good decision-making skills and a keen sense of responsibility.
  • Good communication skills and ability to organise and positively motivate others both individually.
  • Previous experience or ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of defined projects within budgetary constraints through commitment and determination and within set time limits.
  • Experience in liaising and negotiating with a wide range of individuals and organisations including professional consultants, material merchants and all working colleague involved in the development process.
