About the role
We are looking for a highly organised Solicitor or Legal Counsel to work in conjunction with our existing In-House Solicitor and to play a key part in our Head office management functions. The candidate should ideally be a qualified Solicitor, although we would consider a Paralegal as long as the candidate has relevant extensive legal experience. They must be passionate about supporting our teams, both in London and in the regional offices, and committed to delivering results.
Excellent attention to detail is key in this role as well as flexibility and the ability to manage priorities. This role is full time, office based and we’re ideally looking for someone who wants to move from a Legal practise to an in-house role or is already working as general counsel.

Key Responsibilities
Day to day support as required by a busy house builder across all areas of the business, from property/land to finance, HR, corporate, construction and internal structural and financial requirements.
Auditing of any contracts or agreements entered into by the various departments within Acorn.
Liaising with the company’s external solicitors and barristers. The vast majority of the company’s activities are dealt with by external solicitors, the in-house counsel role will help manage these relationships and review our external representation.
Standardisation and templates of loan documents, both intercompany and external, Joint Venture documents and development agreements
Drafting Terms & Conditions for our fundraising activities
Low level litigation and disputes
The ability to think further than just the document that is being produced and also the ability to consider future eventualities/issues and consider all areas of potential risk.
General legal strategy reviews, reviewing legislative changes and how they may impact on the business.
Any additional duties that the business may require you to undertake.
Competencies / Skills
A background in one of the below is desirable but we will work to the strengths of the right candidate:
- Property, residential or commercial.
- Property funding, company law, experience in securities/financial services Financial Instruments, Information Memoranda and issue of redeemable shares.
- Experience in contractual law with a focus on property
- Experience in construction disputes/litigation/insolvency particularly with knowledge of court processes and proceedings
