As Technical Design Manager will be working on both pre-construction and construction, responsible for pulling together a variety of functions in a Technical Management role. Reporting to Regional Senior Management Team, specifically the Construction Manager and Project Construction Manager.

You must have post construction delivery experience in a Technical Coordination role ideally for a main contractor or builder developer.

Technical Design Manager – Accountabilities and key tasks: 

  • Supporting the Project Manager in arranging and chairing design team meetings, managing the process with the consultants and subcontract designers, issuing minutes and ensuring the resulting actions are actioned
  • Assisting the PM in appointing and managing design teams and consultants
  • Coordinate and pull together resource from a variety of departments including M&E, Structure, Civils, Architects, Commercial and Operations both internally and externally
  • Ensure the effective coordination of planning, design freeze and working drawings ensuring that discrepancies are reported and agreed
  • Supporting the PM in collating and managing the contract specifications, drawings, and related documents for the construction process
  • Undertaking drawing reviews, issuing comments, and ensuring all changes are completed and issued to the design team
  • Carry out technical reviews of any proposed works to ensure contractual and technical compliance
  • Organise consultants to carry out all necessary site surveys, soil reports and contamination reports to under due diligence and preconstruction design
  • Coordinate and manage where applicable bonds and section 38, Section 104, and Section 278 agreements
  • Prepare and manage the design and procurement schedule and issue information release schedules to set design target dates
  • Providing support to the project and construction teams
  • Review drawings to ensure proposals/details are practical and implement value engineering opportunities
  • Coordinate the information and design to ensure Acorn Green sustainability criteria and Part L compliance are attained as required
  • Support the PM with the submission of information to satisfy Building Control compliance
  • Good knowledge of sustainable drainage systems to be able to aid with the planning and technical processes for each development
  • Support the PM with coordinating the submission of information to satisfy all planning condition discharges
  • Organise and procure postal addresses, SAP calculations, information schedules and other technical information that is required
  • Organise for disconnection or alternation of existing services when necessary
  • Submitting design information and changes to the client team and recording, tracking, and closing out any comments and queries that arise
  • Coordinate the design information supplied to/from our construction division – including the project supply chain
  • Issue, track and close out any requests for information that arise to enable the design to be completed
  • Assist in the collation of the O&M Health and Safety file

Technical Design Manager – Skills required

  • You will have solid experience with either a national or regional main contractor or potentially Architect, providing you have experience in post-construction coordination
  • Demonstrable experience working on post-construction design and build projects
  • Experience on large projects of at least £20m in value preferred with a main contractor or builder development
  • Innovative – ability to identify better ways of doing things
  • A good team player and communicator, able to liaise between different departments to achieve a common goal
  • Good eye for detail and works well under pressure
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Head office based with opportunity of regular travel to site
