Nestled within the charming Somerset town of Bruton, Longcroft at Cubis Bruton offers more than beautifully designed, energy-efficient homes. It provides a lifestyle centred around community, comfort and making the most of every day.
We caught up with homeowners Lucy and Michael, who share why moving to Longcroft has transformed family life and why they believe buying a new-build home was the right decision.
Having already lived nearby, the couple knew they wanted to remain in the area while finding a home better suited to the next chapter of their lives.
“We heard about the development through the local property market while we were looking for a home that better suited the lifestyle we wanted,” says Lucy. “Longcroft stood out because it offered modern, energy-efficient homes in a location we already loved. It felt like the right opportunity to make the move to a home that would be easier to live in for years to come.”
“We made a few changes to the house before purchasing, mainly around the kitchen design and where light fittings went, and there were a few conversations back and forth. Acorn were always responsive and helpful throughout, and Celia at Lodestone was brilliant. She was approachable, easy to communicate with and incredibly supportive from start to finish.”
For Lucy and Michael, moving to Longcroft has brought a noticeable improvement to their everyday lives.
“The biggest thing for us is the quality of life it has given us,” explains Lucy. “We moved from an old house with an EPC rating of G, which, although full of character, came with constant maintenance and very high energy bills. Our new home is warm, efficient and easy to look after, which means we can spend more time enjoying family life rather than worrying about the house.”
Having previously spent much of their time maintaining an older property, they now enjoy the simplicity and comfort that comes with a modern, energy-efficient home.
Energy efficiency was one of the main reasons the couple chose a new-build home.
“Efficiency was definitely one of the biggest factors,” says Michael. “The insulation and energy performance are a world away from what we were used to, and it’s made a big difference both financially and in terms of comfort.”
The low-maintenance design was equally important.
“We were looking for a simpler lifestyle where we could spend less time maintaining a property and have more time together as a family, doing the things we enjoy. The sense of community has been an added bonus too.”
Like every home at Longcroft, their property has been thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind, an EPC rating of A is supported by solar PV panels, triple glazed windows and a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system.
One of the biggest surprises since moving has been how quickly they felt at home.
“Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming, which has made settling in really easy,” says Lucy. “It’s lovely living somewhere where neighbours chat and look out for one another. There’s a genuine sense of community here, and we’ve really appreciated how welcoming everyone has been.”
It’s this friendly atmosphere that has made Longcroft more than simply a place to live.
Although Lucy and Michael already knew the local area, Bruton always stood out as somewhere they could see themselves calling home.
“It has a great balance of being a small, friendly town while still offering so much in terms of food, art and culture,” explains Michael. “We also like that it feels a little quieter and more manageable than somewhere like Frome, while still having plenty going on.”
Having lived at Longcroft for almost a year already, they’ve embraced everything the Bruton town has to offer.
“We love Bruton’s creative atmosphere and there are some fantastic places to eat. We also enjoy visiting Hauser & Wirth and The Newt, both of which are wonderful to have so close by. Having those kinds of amenities on our doorstep is something we really value.”
For Lucy and Michael, moving to Longcroft has been about much more than buying a new home. It’s about becoming part of a welcoming community and enjoying all that Bruton has to offer, while spending less time maintaining a house and more time making memories together.
