We selected them from a strong list of potential buyers for their straightforward and honest approach and we wish them much success in achieving their own ambitions for the Academy site.

Since then they have fully engaged with us and the contractors ensuring clear understanding between all parties. The team have also worked hard to avoid foreseeable problems and overcome the unforeseeable. As a charity taking on a project of this nature, it has been of real benefit working with such diligent and forward-looking developers who have assumed the risk of the project and allowed the charity to maintain and benefit from its investment property holdings.
Once complete, this development will invigorate Trinity Village and will bolster the sustainability and growth of the Trinity House Maritime Charity’s work in support of maritime benevolence, education and safety at sea.

There is always a willingness from them to work with the buyers every step of the way to create a dream home to be enjoyed and not just lived in. In addition, the Acorn team are a wonderful group of people who know how to have fun and support the local area. From Dragon Boat racing on the Bristol Floating Harbour to supporting local charities, Acorn are a superb team who are always thinking of others ahead of themselves.

AWW gained a planning consent at Loft House a Grade II listed building to covert the former orphanage, to residential use. The building dates back to 1857 and is part of a group of buildings designed for the missionary George Müller to house orphans. Purchased by Acorn soon after consent the apartments were re-looked at, some re-configured and mezzanines added to take advantage of the larger volumes and heights to create exciting and functional apartments.
Philip Bevan, Director and Architect, AWW
Acorn clearly shares our vision to create high-quality buildings and so this enables us to have a relationship that’s open and built on mutual trust. Construction on site is going really well and I believe that that's been helped by our strong working relationship. We are naturally delighted to be involved with this landmark scheme
Martyn Osborne, Managing Director, Speller Metcalfe
Not only did Acorn pay a good price but they showed a flexible and collaborative approach as we managed our adjoining development projects. We have enjoyed a remarkable level of mutual trust to the benefit of both our organisations.

Originally from London, the appeal of gentler roads and a slower pace was a big draw for the Settle’s – “We originally looked along the Dorset coast,” they say, “but Bruton gives us so much more and the sea is only an hour away, so we go often. We have the best of both worlds living here.”

“I wanted somewhere friendly, the kind of place where if you say hello, people say hello back. Wrington really felt like that. It’s a genuinely welcoming community.”
Coming from a period property, ceiling height was also important. “We were used to high ceilings, and we haven’t felt like we’ve lost that at all,” Dawn says. “The only downside is I need a stool to reach the top cupboards in the kitchen!”
Having viewed other new-build developments, Gatcombe Orchard stood out to Dawn and Mark. “So many new-builds felt like the living spaces were just too small,” Dawn says. “Here, there’s real space."

They’re putting the finishing touches to it now and not only does it looks great, but I knew I was in good hands with Acorn – the team have looked after me well. What’s more, the business has a strong reputation for creating brilliant new homes. It really was the most straightforward of decisions to move to St. Leonards Quarter and I’m really looking forward to calling it home.
You could call it a ‘no-brainer’ because St Leonard’s is ideally located for me to live near my two children and my lovely grandchildren. Plus, it will be the perfect place for me to immerse myself in the community and make the most of all the wonderful things the area has to offer, such as cycling and walking routes. There are lots of pubs and restaurants in the area as well so there will be plenty of things to do.

The Acorn team really helped me find my feet when I first arrived. I hit the ground running in lots of ways and now we’ve not only got a lovely home but it’s also a great place to base my yoga practice. It’s a relaxing, spacious, and airy environment which benefits from enjoying plenty of natural light. There’s even a pathway leading down to the picturesque banks of the River Frome if we want a change of scenery.

It felt right to be buying a home at a site being brought back into use and regenerated, rather than a greenfield site. It ticks all the important boxes for us. It’s a quality, contemporary home, but it also boasts impressive sustainability credentials; from use of eco-stock bricks and triple-glazing to the consideration of biodiversity across the site. I was also won over by the styling of the houses and the big windows that mean every room is filled with light. Plus, as a former garden and interior designer, I appreciated how well the architect had maximised the space to give each room a workable layout and lovely flow through the house.

I couldn’t ask for more from the location, I can catch the waves before or after work, grab the perfect little lunch from the new Rest Bay Café, also with amazing views. And if that wasn’t enough there is also one of the most prestige golf courses in the UK on my doorstep. The thing that really gets me the most is waking up minutes from the most incredible beach, and for this I feel extremely lucky.

We had an excellent experience with the Acorn team. The meetings and visits to the Show Home were under the restrictions of lockdown and were really well managed. Any e-mails and telephone messages were dealt with promptly and we were always treated with the upmost respect.

While it was clearly modern, a plus point for me, the detailing of the external design was fitting with the broader local architecture: the pitch of the roof, the stone detailing. It all added to creating something that was subtly distinct, but not out of place.
The internal design and specification was also a key point for me. Where the architects might have squeezed in extra rooms, they didn’t, leaving each room feeling spacious and bright. The good quality boiler, underfloor heating and heat exchanger all added up to a quality product.

“We’d always walked past these three-storey townhouses and liked the look of them, so it was an obvious choice to go and have a look,” says Sami.
“We looked around the Show Home and it had all the space we needed, in the layout that worked for our lifestyle. The extra living room was something I especially wanted. When we moved to our last house, our older son was nine months old so the open-plan layout was perfect and we still wanted to keep that, having another baby. We’ve got two dogs as well, so being able to have the big family area downstairs and the other living room, which is more of a cosy room, plus the extra bedroom, because Max needs an office, was ideal.
“The train station was also a huge part about, firstly, moving to this side of Frome but also staying this side, because we’re so close to the station. My sister also lives really close by. Because we’ve been here so long, we knew Helyn and Diana from the sales team. They were so helpful and that also made it an easy decision. The old house was the first house we’d bought, so selling and buying another house was brand new to us. They gave us recommendations of people to go through as well, which made me feel happier. Everything just aligned.”
“There is a field behind the house down by the river where you can go with dogs which is five minutes away,” says Max, 37. “We used to live next to Wimbledon Common and my dog was very used to having long walks, so having the field nearby is excellent.
“We loved our old house, so finding this one in the same development felt perfect — it has everything we loved before from open plan living to energy-efficiency features, just on a bigger scale. The neighbourhood is great, and the people are really friendly. There’s even a summer street party, which has become a fun yearly tradition. The community has got a warm, welcoming feel.”
Sami adds: “There’s a lot of thought for the area, the environment, even the shared spaces and solar panels, all these things make it more energy efficient and more friendly for the environment. My favourite thing about the new house is actually the solar panels. Our energy bill is lower, definitely during the summer. Moving to a bigger house, the bills going up was a worry of mine, but actually I think we’re better off.
“We loved the old house, we would never have moved if we didn’t need more space. We’ve just been lucky that we’ve been able to literally move down the road. We already liked the area and the house, so being able to just upgrade essentially, this now feels more like our forever home.”
Max and Sami
It seemed to offer everything I was looking for and more. I wanted to be reasonably close to Rob [Kathryn's son] and family. I wanted somewhere that would allow me to take walks and the prospect of a westerly facing sea view, with my own terrace seemed like a dream. I had never lived in an apartment before so that was going to be a first.
Having lived here almost a year I can say it’s like living in a dream. The view, the sunsets. It is all better than I had imagined and the level and specification of the finished product has been spot on.
The community both at The Links and in Rest Bay is lovely. Prior to lock-down, I had been going to local Line Dancing groups three times and week and I love my walks by the sea. An unexpected but really lovely part of being here is my neighbours – we are all very different but have got to know each other very quickly, mainly because of a shared pleasure in living in such a lovely place.

I had high hopes for my new home. These hopes have been met and exceeded. The apartment is finished to a wonderful standard and is well-positioned to offer a bustling urban setting.

Location is a huge part of what makes it for me. The atmosphere on the harbourside is always lively and there is so much to do within walking distance.

Thank you both so much for all your help with the purchase. We're all so happy in our new Otters Holt home!

We are also very impressed with Acorn's excellent integration of heritage and modern design, and the high interior specifications. The location overlooking the SS Great Britain is also very special - 48 years ago I watched the SS Great Britain return to her dock opposite the development, and look forward to watching the 50-year celebrations from my own window!

Acorn has been extremely helpful not only during the process of buying but also since we moved in, providing lots of information on the build and aftercare as needed.
Yvonne Perry
Acorn has been very involving by updating with progress regularly. Attention to detail has been second to none from seeing detailed plans, viewing the model at Head Office and having on-site visits.

We had a very good experience buying with Acorn, the team were very helpful and we’re just so pleased to have secured the apartment of our dreams – we love it!

Having the existing services such as on-site car park, lifts and serviced common areas in the centre of Bournemouth is ideal for our needs and has encouraged us to purchase an additional commercial floor for our future growth.
