Acorn Residents Support Local Air Ambulance

July 24, 2022

Earlier this year, one of our residents at The Old Printworks in Frome injured herself whilst rotovating her garden and needed air lifting to hospital. Despite the difficult circumstances, Gilly made an extraordinary recovery thanks to the swift response and rescue of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance who attended the accident for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) team.

Within the South West, there are five air ambulance charities that can be deployed by the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. Each provide mutual support for each other. Although Gilly’s location was in the DSAA area, because their team was unavailable at the time, Wiltshire Air Ambulance was deployed.

An emotional day for all involved, particularly for the resident and her family, our brilliant site team sprang into action to clear the debris from an adjacent piece of land to facilitate a safe landing site for the helicopter.

The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and Wiltshire Air ambulance rely on donations, meaning every penny counts towards making the lifesaving work they do possible.  As an acknowledgement of our appreciation, this month we are pleased to have donated £500.00 to the DSAA for their incredible work, which will be shared with Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

But the donations don’t stop there! At the end of July, a number of residents at The Old Printworks will come together to run an open garden event named ‘Same Same but Different’. Organised by the residents themselves, the purpose of the event is to raise donations for the DSAA through the sale of plants. Many of the residents started with similar sized gardens and have found different ways to make them unique through the use of planting and gardening, sparking the idea behind the event.

Just one of the ways in which this newly formed community is coming together, we would like to say a big well done to our residents for their efforts in organising this event to fundraise for this fantastic charity.

For more information on our award-winning homes at The Old Printworks, visit our Show Homes open daily from 10am – 5pm or call the team today on 01373 888 303.
