The Role:

We are looking for a highly organised qualified Solicitor to work in conjunction with our existing in-house legal team.

The candidate will predominantly be dealing with litigation matters and disputes and it is preferred they have experience in the housebuilding or construction industry and/or experience with insolvency litigation.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor with solid litigation experience looking to move to an In-House role. The candidate will be expected to deal with minor litigations in-house, and liaise with external solicitors and counsel if necessary for larger, more complex matters.

They must be passionate about supporting our teams, both in London and in our regional offices, and be committed to delivering results.

This role is full time and office based.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation and disputes – The main role will be seeing through both pre-action and litigated claims to a conclusion. Predominately dealing with subcontractors, suppliers, and professionals working within the construction industry and freeholders, leaseholders, and tenants.

Ancillary to this, day to day support as required by a busy house builder across all areas of the business, including advising on contracts, guarantees and land acquisition agreements.

General legal strategy reviews, reviewing legislative changes and how they may impact the business.

Any additional duties that the business may require you to undertake.

 

Competencies/Skills required:

  • A background in one of the below is desirable but we will work to the strengths of the right candidate:
  • Experience in construction disputes/litigation/insolvency particularly with knowledge of court processes and proceedings
  • Experience in dealing with Managing Agent disputes
  • In-house experience and exposure to joint venture agreements, land acquisition and option agreements, development agreements and profit share agreements would be desirable, but is absolutely not a prerequisite
  • Excellent drafting skills, with an analytical mindset and the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to non-legal colleagues
  • Commercially aware and solutions-oriented, with a proactive approach
  • Excellent attention to detail is key in this role as well as flexibility and the ability to manage priorities
