My Experience at Acorn Property Group

January 31, 2018

Sasha, a 22-year-old graduate from Cornwall has been undertaking a month’s work experience with the Land team in our Newquay office.

We asked her a couple of questions about her time at Acorn…

What did you study and where?
I graduated from the University of Exeter with a 2:1 in Geography BA in July 2017 and I hope to undertake an MSc in Real Estate, an online course that is run by the University of Estate Management.

What drew you to the property industry?
My interest in property development started when I was 15 and undertook work experience at an architects firm. I’ve also always had a keen interest in Geography and the Built Environment, so combined with what I have learnt about architecture, a career in property development seems like a logical choice.

How have you found your experience at Acorn, what have you learnt?
I’ve enjoyed learning about Acorn’s joint ventures and partnerships, as well as gaining a greater understanding of the stages of a development and the planning process. I have also learnt more about using Microsoft Project, which has been really valuable. Overall, the experience has been insightful and well rounded and it has been really exciting to gain an understanding of Acorn’s current projects, which to me seem to be the best in Cornwall.

What are your future aspirations?
I am keen to work for a property development company that, like Acorn, specialises in developments that are aesthetically and environmentally sensitive to their location or one that utilises exciting yet sustainable architecture.

Has your experience with Acorn influenced your future goals?
Definitely, it has confirmed my aspiration to work in property development.

Finally, which is your favourite Acorn development?

It has to be Old Station Master’s House in Fowey- it’s beautiful!
