Urchfont Primary School children see construction in action at Hazel Green

December 13, 2023

Children from Urchfont Primary School had a special tour of our new Hazel Green development, including a look at how the homes have been constructed and demonstrations of site machinery in action.

On 14 November 2023, a group of 25 six and seven-year-olds from the school visited the development, where they received a health and safety briefing, followed by an overview of the building materials used at Hazel Green and how the supplies were delivered to the site. The children were shown the plans and architect drawings for the homes and there was a discussion on the importance of school subjects such as maths when working in construction.

Mrs Reynolds, Class Teacher of Years 2 & 3 at Urchfont Primary School, said: “Our pupils were filled with awe while looking around the site and the forklift demonstration in particular. They recognised the importance of the safety equipment and found it fun wearing their hard hats and hi-vis vests.

“As well as identifying the various components that can be found in houses, they enjoyed the chance to learn all about the building process from initial design to finished construction. Our thanks go to the development team for providing this wonderful experience.”

Mike Clements, Operations Manager at Acorn Property Group, led the tour and was impressed by the enthusiasm of the pupils.

“As neighbours to our site, we were keen to give Urchfont Primary School the opportunity for pupils to find out more about what’s been happening here and to learn about the construction of new homes in general. The children were especially excited to see the machinery we use in action and we had a lot of interesting questions during our Q&A,” he said.

“Supporting the local communities where we work is important to us as an independent housebuilder and we hope the children left feeling inspired to consider construction as a potential career path in the future.”

Hazel Green is an exclusive collection of nine, detached 3 and 4-bedroom homes – each of which feature luxurious interiors with open plan living spaces.

With an EPC A rating, each house has been designed to maximise energy efficiency, including air source heat pumps, solar panels and smart heating controls, along with provision for electric car charging. Generously sized high-performance windows maximise the beautiful surroundings while also bringing a light, open feel that doesn’t compromise on warmth in the colder months.

As well as its close proximity to Urchfont Primary School, Hazel Green is within easy reach of amenities including the community shop and local pub, as well as nearby scenic walking and cycling routes.
