What’s on in Bristol this August Bank Holiday

August 24, 2021

If you’re looking for a new home in Bristol, you’re probably aware of the city’s rich diversity that contributes to a fantastic calendar of annual events. Encompassing everything from art and history to music, sport and theatre, Bristol really does have something for everyone.

So, what better time to be in Bristol than over the August Bank Holiday weekend? Home to our Alliance House and Brooks Dye Works schemes, we’ll walk you through some of the best local events to get involved in with your friends and family – come rain or shine!

Museum of the Moon at Bristol Cathedral

Quite possibly the most dazzling event to attend in Bristol this summer, Luke Jerram’s celebrated Museum of the Moon will be hosted at Bristol Cathedral throughout August. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the internally-lit spherical artwork uses NASA imagery to capture the moon in forensic detail, with each centimetre representing 5km of its total surface.

Vanguard | Bristol Street Art at M Shed

Within walking distance from our new homes at Alliance House on Baldwin Street lies the popular M Shed Museum along Bristol’s iconic harbour. Exhibiting until the 31st of October, Vanguard | Bristol Street Art explores the instrumental role that Bristol played in the development of British street art. Delving into the history behind the movement throughout the 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s, prepare to be immersed in one of the largest collections of original works and memorabilia ever seen in the UK.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at Bristol Hippodrome

Disney fans rejoice! First debuted on Broadway 26 years ago, the beloved Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast, comes to Bristol Hippodrome this August and September. Spectacularly reimagined with the latest theatrical innovations, you won’t want to miss this enchanting musical.

Terrace Sessions at Bristol Beacon

If music is more your thing, Bristol Beacon is hosting its sixth year of Terrace Sessions this summer. Taking place from Thursdays-Saturdays throughout August, Terrace Sessions features a full month of free and ticketed parties set on an atmospheric terrace overlooking the city. Each session starts after work at 6pm – the perfect opportunity to grab a beer, have a dance and enjoy the summer vibes!

August Exhibitions at The Arnolfini

Overlooking the harbourside, a short stroll from our homes at Alliance House, you will find the internationally renowned Arnolfini arts centre. Boasting a continuous stream of contemporary exhibitions throughout the year including art, music, dance, poetry, cinema and more, this iconic Bristol venue is ideal for a leisurely afternoon out.
