What’s on in South Wales this August Bank Holiday

August 25, 2021

If you’re stuck for plans this August Bank Holiday, why not explore the beautiful region of South Wales? With more buyers considering a move to the countryside following the Covid-19 pandemic, South Wales offers an attractive destination with its stunning natural scenery and vibrant capital city of Cardiff. Home to our Cottrell Gardens and The Links schemes, we round up some of the best local events to get involved in.

Festival of Flowers

Town centres in the Vale of Glamorgan will look blooming lovely this summer with the inaugural Festival of Flowers. Encouraging people to support their local high street, floral installations and a Flower Trail can be enjoyed by visitors in the towns of Barry, Cowbridge, Llantwit Major and Penarth from the 1st-31st August. What’s more, if you complete the trail, you will be in with a chance of winning an £100 shopping spree in each of the 4 towns!

The Glamorgan Heritage Coastline

Rock pooling, surfing and sandcastles – just a few of the beach activities to get involved in when visiting The Glamorgan Heritage Coastline. Only a 30-minute drive from our rural homes at Cottrell Gardens in Bonvilson, this stunning part of South Wales offers 14 miles of unspoilt coastline which stretches all the way to Porthcawl, home to our coastal properties at The Links in Rest Bay. If you’ve had your fix of sun and sand for the day, why not head over to St Donat’s Castle, Ogmore Castle & stepping stones or Nash Point Lighthouse.

Oystermouth Castle Guided Tours

Overlooking Swansea Bay, Oystermouth Castle reopens its doors from 26th July – 30th August for a series of guided tours. Discover the hidden histories of this majestic 12th century Norman Castle with an experienced volunteer guide.

Jurassic Encounter

If you’re looking to keep the kids entertained this August Bank Holiday, why not explore what the capital has to offer? One for all the family to enjoy, Jurassic Encounter is an interactive installation of 50 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods. Taking place at the leafy Bute Park in Cardiff from the 21st August – 5th September, prepare to be mesmerised at this educational and entertaining event.

Howl Comedy Weekender

If you’re craving some comedy, the Howl Comedy Weekender is another event to choose from in the capital. Set to have you in stitches come rain or shine, this outdoor event will be held at the picturesque Insole Court in Cardiff on the 29th of August with a line-up including Stuart Goldsmith, Katie Pritchard, MC Lorna Prichard and guests.
