NEWSFLASH: The Liner set to sail again

The Liner development at St Michaels Hotel and Spa which overlooks Gyllyngvase Beach on the former site of The Falmouth Beach hotel is finally set to sail.

The original scheme which was christened The Liner due to its nautical design was granted full planning consent in December 2014 for 56 apartments, together with a restaurant bar and village shop. The scheme received widespread support, and a new planning application was submitted with some small amends to the original Liner plans, reducing the total number of apartments down to 53.

That scheme and revised planning application received unanimous approval from Falmouth Town Council’s Planning Committee this week and Councillor Steve Eva said, “It’s a great scheme – let’s hope it will be built. It’s a prestigious building and I fully recommend it.”

St Michaels has been looking at ways to ensure the highest quality development is built, accommodate resident concerns, as well as conclude a partnership with a well-respected developer.

“I am now delighted to announce that Acorn Property Group is our chosen developer for this project and we have mutually decided that The Liner is the scheme which will be developed. We are very excited about developing this iconic building with such a prestigious and experienced Cornish developer at one of the very best sites in Cornwall,” said Nigel Carpenter, Proprietor at St Michaels Hotel and Spa.

Nicola Markham, Joint Regional Managing Director of Acorn’s Cornwall office Acorn Blue comments, “We are thrilled to be developing this magnificent site. I am also pleased that our amendments have been approved as these ensure each of the apartments will enjoy uninterrupted, south facing sea views over Gyllyngvase Beach, will feature floor to ceiling windows and generous balconies.”

Apartment owners will benefit from access to St Michaels Health Club, with its 17-metre heated pool, super large gym, three studios which offer over 100 classes a week and much more.

The new destination St Michaels Spa will feature 11 treatment rooms and one of the largest hydrotherapy pools in the South West. Thermal experiences will include sauna, aroma steam, sea salt steam, experience shower journies, heated loungers, an outdoor hot tub and a spa garden.

Across the site, there will be three restaurants and bars all offering unique and different cuisine while capturing the very best of fresh Cornish produce.

“It is wonderful that this beachfront site will finally be developed” continued Nigel Carpenter. “The Liner will be an iconic and visionary building which will add a new level of quality to the seafront.”

Work is expected to start on site on the new apartments in late summer 2018 with construction anticipated to take 18-24 months.
