Acorn secures funding for residential development in South Wales

June 27, 2018

Acorn Property Group’s Cardiff office has secured funding with United Trust Bank for its residential development The Links in Porthcawl, South Wales.

Acorn is developing the project in a joint venture with the landowner and has spent two years securing listed building approval and new build planning consent.

The project will see the conversion of a former convalescent hotel into a mix of thirty-five, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments on a site adjacent to Royal Porthcawl Golf Course which hosts the Senior Open. The site also overlooks Rest Bay, one of South Wales’ most popular surfing beaches with completion expected in 2019. A second phase of development will see an additional thirty-four new build apartments with work due to start in 18 months. Intelle Construction has been appointed as principal contractor for the conversion work.

James Groombridge, Regional Managing Director for Acorn’s Cardiff office said: “Having spent the last two years obtaining a new planning consent and listed building approval as well as undertaking over six months of pre-conversion works, it is really exciting to have finally started on the 18-month programme to convert the former convalescent hotel. As well as being a fabulous building, the location is superb, and it is no surprise that we already have more than 600 prospective buyers registered on our database.”
