Retirees find the perfect home in East Devon

March 22, 2019

Retired couple Paul and Angela Doyle wanted to settle in East Devon and have found the perfect spot at our riverside development in Ottery St Mary.

Paul and Angela, who are originally from the Midlands, had bought their previous home off-plan 23 years ago and were keen to purchase a new home again, so when a Rightmove search revealed Otters Holt, they were excited.

Paul, who does voluntary work, commented: “We like how energy efficient new homes are, which makes them cheaper to run. It’s also nice to know they require no renovation, or you won’t need to knock a wall down anytime soon!”

Otters Holt is a collection of thirty-three, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes with architecture that has been designed to reflect the historic setting of the former wooden mill. Being part of a smaller, bespoke development appealed to the couple, so after viewing the Show Home, they reserved a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom townhouse with French doors leading out to a garden.

The positioning of Otters Holt means that the couple has a good range of local amenities within a 5-minutes’ walk and stunning countryside and the coast nearby. All of which were important deciders in their home purchase. Speaking of the development, Paul added: “Otters Holt is so close to the sea and just 30 minutes from many of the key places in Devon. We really have everything on our doorstep and we can also enjoy a walk by the river which is gorgeous.”

The homes at Otters Holt have been designed to a high specification with both contemporary and traditional features. Angela, who is semi-retired and works part-time, says: “I really like the standard of the kitchen, it has good quality fittings. The little things are so important and you can tell these have been thought through – down to the soft close toilet seats!”

Speaking of their experience with Acorn, Angela explained: “It was a difficult and stressful time as the sale of our own house had fallen through but the Acorn team were very helpful and patient. We kept in touch with the team over a number of nail-biting weeks but were eventually able to proceed.”

Robin Squire, Regional Managing Director of Acorn Bristol commented: “We’re so pleased that Mr and Mrs Doyle secured their dream home at Otters Holt and can now enjoy everything that East Devon has to offer in their retirement. This has been a really popular scheme for people at all different life stages, so it’s no wonder we now have such limited availability remaining.”

The Doyles moved into their new home in December and were able to enjoy Christmas there. Now settled in, Angela comments: “We are really appreciative of the thoughtful design that has gone into our home and the development overall- we have everything we could need under one roof!”

With a limited number of homes remaining at Otters Holt, get in touch with us today to find out how you could secure your dream East Devon home with us.
